Michael, 1950
In San Francisco
Stan, Jon and Mike, 1953
First generation of the Barton Boys
Stan, Jon and Mike 1954
Treehouse 1967
Bob and I built a treehouse in a small sycamore in my Mom’s back yard in 1965. It was remodeled and expanded to look like this by 1967. Somewhere is a photo with 28 people on the treehouse front porch.
Camping, 1967
My brother Jon, some friends and I, used to enjoy camping and roughing it around Fort Bragg, California. This is Jon on one of our camping trips.
Quaker Oats House, 1969
From 1968 until early 1973, I lived in a small house in a field. The Health Department came out and said I had to paint the house and do some other stuff. I started painting in November 1968, and my landlord thought I was painting a Santa Claus at first, but I wasn’t. Took six months with a 1/4″ brush. I failed as a sign painter.
Basement work room, 1974
In 1973 I moved downtown. I had my work space in a corner of my dirt-floor flood basement.
1625 F St., 1975
This was home from 1973 until 1976, and the birthplace of Barton Art Glass Works. That’s Casey and me on the stairs.
1625 F St., 1977
The city, with infinite ignorance as usual, decided to demolish every house on the block, to make a mini-park and large vacant lot. I fought the city, and my house is the only one that wasn’t bulldosed. My house moved four blocks away, I moved twenty.
My Family, 1979

Evan and I, 1980
Darn good photo of Evan and his dad. Photo by John Weber.
Beverly Hills Show, 1982
“Affaire In the Gardens” Beverly Hills, 1982. I stopped showing my work publicly after this show.
My bike, 1983
My friend Tony sold me a box of rusted bike parts in 1975. I cleaned every piece, had parts plated with chrome, brass or copper, and painted some other parts. Turned out to be a ’50’s Fuji Elephant. Shown when completed, with Casey.
At the Old City Cemetery, 1984
The boys and I went to the nearby cemetery for picnics, art walks, and flora studies. Here’s the boys with family friend, Donny.
Downstairs workroom, 1986
My workroom used to be upstairs, but the boys were always getting glass in their feet.
Family Portrait, 1986
Me and my boys, Casey, Ryan and Evan; the 2nd generation of Barton Boys.
In kitchen, 1987
Lawn Marbles, 1989
At Camp Colton Fusing Ranch in Oregon. Ruth Brockman and Boyce in photo.
Stratocaster Box, 1996
Watt Crypt window 1999
This was a window restoration for the Watt crypt in the Old City Cemetery. The bottom half of this window was gone. Took me 15 years to get permission to fix this window for free.
Casey’s Wedding Day, 2000
I brought my camera to get pictures of this special day. Casey’s bride, Kathy, took this one photo, and I ran out of film. I was going to get a photo of the newlyweds next, honest.
Christmas, 2000
Kathy and Casey, me, brother Jim, Mom, Evan, daughter-once-removed Erinn, Ryan, Atsuko with brother Stan, brother Terry (where’s Lynnette?), and brother Jon with his Wendy, Cassie and Shane.
Christmas, 2000
Kathy, Casey, me, Ryan and Evan
New Roof, 2001
My bank turned me down for a loan to have my leaking roof fixed. Boyce loaned and then gave me the money to do it myself. My friend Bob and his work partner Alistaire did some structural work, re-built the chimney, and helped me get the plywood sheathing up. I did all the shingling. We had about 30 pigeons left over, if anybody wants them.
